TEACH 4 JUSTICE
ABOUT RADICAL READS
This site is for teachers, parents, and bookworms who recognize the power of reading to transform our hearts and the hearts of our students :)

The motivation behind it is to provide an easy tool for the above-mentioned parties to scope out prospective books. The blog posts provide reviews of children's literature, recommended text sets for teachers and students, and reviews of teacher resources relating to multicultural education.

Key Features:
All of the blog posts on this site are aimed at preparing educators to critically examine texts with their students by how language can either propagate or dismantle prejudices centered on race, class, gender, religion, or other factors of identity. Some of the posts center on a single text— providing a critical analysis, rating it for overall quality, and including recommendations for supplementary texts with similar subject matter for future reading. Other posts provide analyses of text sets, or books that complement each other due to the common themes they share. Finally, some posts provide recommendations of resources for teachers— materials that shed light on antiracism, culturally sustaining pedagogies, and other topics that prepare teachers to work in diverse settings.

Note: not all of the reviews posted will feature "perfect" examples of multicultural literature. The reviews may challenge texts that are popular— but flawed. A poor review is not an encouragement to toss out a given book; rather it is a call to consider how we can have conversations with our kids about the parts of a text that may reflect cultural biases.
